W. & l. E. Gurley Precise Telescopic Solar Attachment for model 92-T Hell Gate Precise Transit.
This can be fitted to either the model 82 or 92 Transit with the addition of a offset vertical tangent
clamp in order to let the center spindle fit through the clamp. Please see the photo. These solar attachment are often referred to as a Smith Solar Attachment. It is made of brass and the counter  weight is made of lead. There are no attaching screws, nuts, or washers, and none available.
The Attachment is in excellent mechanical working condition, the silver divided arcs are tarnished. The attachments were often removed from the transit and by themselves are rare and the counter weight are rarer. It probably dates to the 1930's The cross hairs are intact.
