Description
So, what we have here is a EUGENE DIETZGEN Co. LTD, TORONTO, Verschoyle Patent Transit. I could not find any discussion of it at the time of this listing in antique survey forums, or anywhere else for that matter. There is a minor occurrence in a 1908 Bi-monthly Bulletin of the American Institute of Mining Engineers, scanned and archived by Google, but that's it. This pocket transit works like a souped-up sighting compass. The main body consists of a compass and leveling bubble. Once leveled-up on the tripod, the folding sighting mechanism is used to acquire the azimuth and declination. The compass works , and has a brake that keeps it from getting knocked around during transportation. It also has a momentory brake to be used while operating the transit. The level bubble is fully functional. The peep sight (with folding cover) consists of a lens / prism combo that allows you to simultaneously see the compass reading while down range. This transit made out from aluminum & coated brass . The leather case is original and in good condition. Instrument is near mint condition, looks like never used much.HEIGHT : 1 3/4"
WIDTH : 3 1/4" x 4 1/4" .
USA PATENT #790163.
