    *Up for sale here is a very rare washing type of household bottle from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This rather crude example would date from the civil war era, and has the smooth hinge mold base. Closely resembles an old medicine bottle. The color of the old glass is a blueish aqua shade. This example is sparkling clean, and displays near mint from the front. On the upper back side of the lip, there are two minor ice pick chips, as shown here in the pictures. This was done back in the day to pry out the cork to use. It has the applied tapered collared top.
    *It is crudely embossed ~ "QUEEN OF THE WASH TUB / HESS & Co". This is easy to read. Bottle is oval in shape, and is in the smaller size. It measures 8 1/4 inches tall, and 3 1/2 inches by 2 1/4 inches across the oval smooth base. There are no cracks or potstones in the glass. An interesting bottle with neat unusual embossing on it. You will be well pleased with this piece of history, from southwestern Pa.
