A rare find! Donated to our thrift shop this week: a surveying compass, brass
, early '900, with sights and level, goniometric circle, nonius from 0 to 300, stop of compass needle.
Diameter cm 14 - inches 5.51. It weights 2Lb 41.5oz
In great condition for such an item. The top cover's paint is a little chipped but you can still read the serial number "No 1156" in the center. It accomplished its function of protecting the compass itself. The glass is in good condition. The sight and level move freely as designed. The stop for the needle is smooth and operates well.

Otto A. Ganser (Wien) was the distributor or manufacturer of a type of compass bearing M.15. This kind of compass, which is also found in collections such as the Museum of Instruments of the Military Geographic Institute in Florence, has the distinction of presenting, inside the cover, a plate with isogone Central and Eastern Europe in 1915.
